The Authentication Bench — Evidence for Every Tell

The LuxPik bench is equipped for material, workmanship and detail inspection across handbags, watches and jewellery. Instruments plus a standardised procedure mean every tell on a counterfeit can be evidenced rather than asserted.

01Handling gloves

The basic protection for any examination, keeping perspiration and grease off leather and other materials. Appraisers wear them for every piece, so that nothing is contaminated during examination, photography or transfer and the piece is handed on exactly as it arrived.

0210× hand loupe

The instrument reached for most often on handbags. Its built-in light illuminates detail for reading grain, the depth and symmetry of hardware stamping, and tooling marks. Whether a metal stamp is crisp and even is one of the key tells between genuine and counterfeit.

03200× macro lens

A phone-mounted macro attachment for magnifying leather grain, the finish inside hardware stamping, the texture of metal, and letterform. Capturing high-resolution macro images gives comparison work a visual record and pins down where a counterfeit's workmanship breaks down.

0410× macro lens with LED ring light

Broader in use than the 200× lens. The ring light gives even, shadow-free illumination that shows embossing depth, tooling marks on metal and the finish of stone settings, which makes it the usual choice for a quick first pass over handbag hardware and jewellery.

05Dental mirror

For looking at places the eye cannot reach directly — the inside of a zip, stamped symbols — without turning the piece over repeatedly. It is how the small tells in letterform, edges and channel finishing get found.

06365nm UV lamp

Used on laser marks, cards, warranty documents, packaging and adhesive seams in lining, checking that the fluorescent response at each point matches the house's own process. It is the central instrument for verifying a luxury piece's paperwork.

07Watch screwdriver set

For watches: removing bracelet and case screws to inspect the movement and how the piece is assembled inside. Precision tips match the screw specifications of different maisons so that nothing is marked during the inspection.

08Knurled case-back opener

For opening a watch case back to inspect the movement and the sealing. An adjustable dial matches different case-back diameters and knurl patterns, so the grip stays firm and the load is spread evenly without marking the case.
