The figure on this page is what this particular transaction settled at. It reflects the house, the model, the condition, how complete the accessories were and the market at the time, and is not a quoted price for a comparable piece.

The client

Ms Zhang came in from Guangzhou with a Coco Handle in silver lambskin. The chain, dust bag and receipt were all gone; what was left was the bag. It had been kept well and used little, with almost no wear at the corners. Once she sat down she wanted two things settled: why a price gap exists between colours within one line, and whether the valuation prices colour separately and how missing accessories are counted.

The model and the market

The Coco Handle is identified by its half-moon top handle, in the same material as the body, with a detachable chain so it works on the shoulder or in the hand. The lining is full leather, unlike the fabric linings on some of the house’s other lines. Structurally it sits at the firmer end of the Chanel range; its secondary audience is a little narrower than the Classic Flap’s, but sales have been consistently steady.

Colour is a variable of its own. Within one model, an easy colour like black draws more enquiries, with silver, pale blue and other seasonal expressions behind it, and the gap can reach the low tens of percent. A bag gets to its number in stages: the house and the model set the range, condition and how complete the accessories are get costed line by line, and the market at the time gives the final landing point. Within one reference, size, leather, colour and hardware pairing still open up a gap.

How this price was set

Ms Zhang’s bag was set at CNY 15,500. Taking the deductions first: silver lambskin is a seasonal expression, a step narrower than black for secondary buyers, and that shows up honestly in the offer. The box and receipt were also gone, so accessories are deducted as missing. What added was the state of the leather — this one graded A, with no visible scratching on the silver lambskin, chain and clasp lustre intact, the shape firm, and the corners clean.

What a bag is worth is not something we decide on our own. Once the checks were done the bag went onto the platform, trade buyers around the country bid in the same window, and the client picked her price from the open list. The Coco Handle is a regular among the models handbag buy-back covers, and the retail ticket is not linked to what the market gives. (Market figures reflect publicly available data.)

What we did

  • Competitive buy-back

The bag goes onto the bidding platform and trade buyers post live offers within ten minutes. The number comes from the market, not from one shop

  • Handbag authentication

An appraiser team of more than a hundred. Every item is signed off by three of them, and each check is recorded line by line and photographed

  • Credentials

Named in 2025 to the first cohort of pre-owned goods circulation pilot enterprises by MOFCOM, the NDRC, the Ministry of Natural Resources and SAMR; in 2019 Vintage-Privée entered a three-way strategic partnership with CCIC (China Certification & Inspection Group) and Alibaba.

Payment goes out on the spot once you accept an offer. Nothing is charged if you walk away

Questions about this case

How is a Chanel Coco Handle valued at buy-back?

Model, condition, accessories and the market are assessed as separate items; the house only sets the broad tier. Colour is its own line — two of the same line in different colours can be more than ten percentage points apart. This Grade A silver lambskin one in Guangzhou, August 2026, was quoted at CNY 15,500.

Within one line, why does black quote above silver?

Secondary demand is tiered by colour. An easy colour like black has more takers, while silver and metallics are seasonal expressions with a relatively narrow audience. That difference goes straight into the offer; it is not a difference in condition.

Where in Guangzhou can I have a Chanel bag checked in person?

All three boutiques will look at the piece in person. Book on 400-831-5667 and an appraiser is put on duty, with the offer given on the spot. Directions and locations are on the Guangzhou boutiques page.

Can a bag with no receipt or box still be sold?

Yes. How complete the accessories are affects only how high the offer is, not whether we can take it. This one came in with no accessories at all, and that was already counted into the valuation.
