The Kelly takes its name from Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco. It has a single handle and a flap, comes with one detachable shoulder strap, and is built in one of two constructions: Sellier, stitched on the outside, or Retourné, stitched inside. At 20cm it is the smallest Kelly there is, brought back in 2016 in the Sellier construction — what the market calls the second-generation Mini Kelly. This size is hard to get at retail and made in small numbers, so little of it reaches the secondary market, while demand concentrates among buyers who want the compact shape. In the same condition it prices above the 25 and the 28. On colour, cream white is not one of the settled staples like black or gold; it reads as a lighter, more seasonal tone, so the pool of buyers is narrower than for a neutral. Hardware and body are read as a pair — warm tones with gold, cool and neutral tones with silver is the more common pairing, and how well each is received moves with taste at the time.

How this price was set
Ms He’s bag came in at CNY 167,000. Three things held that number up. At 20cm the supply is the tightest in the Kelly line — hard to get at retail, and seldom seen on the secondary market. The condition was Grade S: no wear to be found on the leather, the shape still holding, the hardware with its lustre intact. And the leather strap, dust bag, box and original receipt were all present, so accessories were counted at the top of the scale. There was no real mark against this one. The colour is not a settled staple, but the complete set and the top-end condition made that back.
CNY 167,000 is the highest figure in this run of cases. What a bag is worth is not something we decide on our own.
