The figure on this page is what this particular transaction settled at. It reflects the house, the model, the condition, how complete the accessories were and the market at the time, and is not a quoted price for a comparable piece.

The client

Mr Sun is from Hangzhou. On the day he came in he set a Lindy 26 on the counter, and his first question was not the price but how we arrive at one — within the same line, why the 26 should be worth more than the 30. The bag had barely been out of the house since he got it and had been kept in its dust bag, though the original box and receipt were long gone. He was in no hurry; he wanted to know how the figure was reached, and how much missing accessories would take off.

The model and the market

The Lindy came out in 2007: a soft, two-compartment body with two handles and a detachable strap, carried by hand or on the shoulder. The two sizes we take in most are the 26 and the 30, and the 26 has always turned over faster — light to carry, easy for commuting, with more buyers picking it up on the secondary market, so it beats the 30 on both speed and price. Togo is the leather we handle most: finely grained, firm to the touch, slow to show knocks, and used across the Lindy, the Birkin and the Kelly. Among Hermès leathers it sits in the first tier for liquidity. Étain falls in the sought-after part of the grey range, in the same band as black and gold-brown where you do not have to wait for a buyer.

Handbag buy-back runs on no fixed discount. The house, the model, the condition, how complete the accessories are and the market at the time all get costed out together; within one reference, size, leather, body colour and the hardware pairing are variables in the same sum.

How this price was set

Mr Sun’s bag sold at CNY 38,000, held up mainly by three things: the size is a 26 rather than a 30, and demand concentrates on the smaller end; Togo ranks high for liquidity and moves on fastest; and étain sits in the easy-to-sell part of the grey range. Against that, accessories were the one mark down — the original box, dust bag and receipt were all lost, leaving the bag alone, which is deducted as its own line. The condition was Grade S: no visible scratching on the leather, the hardware’s lustre intact, the shape firm with no sag.

The offer was not ours alone to make. Once the bag passed inspection it went onto the bidding platform, trade buyers across the country bid in the same window, the offer sheet was opened to the client line by line, and which one to take was Mr Sun’s to choose. The Lindy is one of the steadier movers in handbag buy-back, but what it fetches pre-owned is a different account from the retail sticker, and each piece is worked out against the market at the time. Questions about this case

What is an Hermès Lindy 26 worth at buy-back?

The offer turns on the house, the model, the condition, the accessories and the market at the time, and within one reference on size, leather and colour. Demand concentrates more on the 26 than the 30, so it usually quotes higher. The Grade S étain one sold in Hangzhou in August 2026 settled at CNY 38,000.

Why does the Lindy 26 quote above the 30?

Secondary demand concentrates on the smaller and mid sizes. The 26 is lighter and more often used for commuting, so more buyers take it on; the 30 holds more but weighs more, and its audience is narrower. At comparable condition and colour, the 26 usually quotes above the 30.

Where can I sell an Hermès bag in Hangzhou?

There are 5 Sheshouduo boutiques in Hangzhou. Book whichever is nearest and the check and the quote are done in person. Call 400-831-5667 beforehand to confirm opening hours. Addresses are on the Hangzhou boutiques page.

Do missing original accessories noticeably affect the offer?

They matter, but they are not decisive. Every original accessory on this bag was lost and the offer still landed in the upper part of the band for the reference — Grade S condition, concentrated demand at 26, and an easily traded étain all outweighed the accessories.
