The Garden Party is Hermès’s tote: a squared body with no flap, two handles fixed directly to the sides, and press studs along the side that let you widen or draw in the body. It is built around what people carry day to day. Of the Garden Parties we take in, the 25 is the mini size — 25cm wide by 15cm tall, easier than the 30 to take along on a commute. Grey sits in the neutral range, works across the seasons, and enquiries for it on the secondary market have been steady, with no need to wait for a particular buyer.
There is no single formula for a bag. The house and the model set the baseline, condition and accessories add to or subtract from it, and the market at the time decides the landing point; between two of the same reference you still look at size, leather, colour and how the hardware is paired.
How this price was set
Mr Xu’s bag settled at CNY 35,000. Three things held that figure. The 25 comes through in small numbers to begin with and demand for it has stayed tight. Grey does not pick its season and suits anyone, so the pool of buyers is wide. And the condition was Grade NS — no wear to be seen on the leather, the hardware still at factory brightness, handles and corners firm. Against that, the missing original box was the one mark down: the receipt and dust bag were still there, the box was not. It is deducted as its own line on the offer sheet, but it has no bearing on whether we can take the bag.
The price was not ours to set — it came from trade buyers bidding in the same window on the platform. The offer sheet was laid out line by line for the client, and which one to take was his to decide.
