The figure on this page is what this particular transaction settled at. It reflects the house, the model, the condition, how complete the accessories were and the market at the time, and is not a quoted price for a comparable piece.

The client

Ms Yang came in from Beijing and kept returning to the same question: is an unfashionable colour a reason to be marked down? What she brought was a Lindy 30 in Evercolor, purple-red with silver hardware, very lightly worn on the body, with none of the box, dust bag or receipt kept. She had asked two other places beforehand and the offers were some way apart, so she cared particularly about where this number came from.

The model and the market

The Lindy is Hermès’s soft-bodied twin-handle bag: two compartments with one detachable strap, carried by hand or on the shoulder, with the 26 and the 30 the two sizes that circulate most. The Evercolor it often uses — EV in the trade — has a fine embossed grain and a satin sheen, sits between Epsom and Togo for firmness, and takes scuffs well; both the Lindy and the Roulis use it. Purple-red is a seasonal colourway, with a narrower set of secondary buyers than a neutral like black or gold-brown, and the offer sits a tier lower for it.

What a bag is worth depends on how it is broken down. Model and house draw the range first, condition and how complete the accessories are are each costed, and the market at the time fixes the landing point; differences within one reference come from size, leather, body colour and hardware pairing.

How this price was set

Ms Yang’s bag came in at CNY 15,500, with the gap coming from two blocks. The deductions first: purple-red falls among the seasonal colours, a step narrower than a neutral for buyers, and not many people are looking for it. The original box, dust bag and receipt were all gone, so accessories are deducted as missing and appear as their own line on the offer sheet. What held it up was the capacity of the 30 — it works for commuting and for short trips, demand for it never really goes away, and there were plenty of bidders. This one graded A, with no scratching visible on the leather, no sag in the shape, and clean corners.

The price came out of bidding. After inspection the bag entered the platform, trade buyers across the country bid side by side, and the client picked one from the open offer sheet. The Lindy is a regular in handbag buy-back, and the house publishes no figure of any kind. (Market figures reflect publicly available data.)

Questions about this case

How is a Lindy priced at buy-back?

Size, leather, colour, condition and accessories all go into the sum, and there is no single figure to apply. This Grade A purple-red 30 in Beijing, August 2026, sold for CNY 15,500.

Is a bag in an unpopular colour marked down?

Colour affects the offer, but that is the market sorting itself into tiers, not a deliberate mark-down. Neutrals like black and gold-brown have more takers; seasonal colours have a relatively narrow audience. The offer sheet sets out the reasoning for colour as its own line, so you can see how it was worked.

How many boutiques in Beijing buy Hermès?

Ten. Pick whichever is nearest and bring the bag along with whatever accessories you still have for an appraiser to go through in person. Book on 400-831-5667; locations are on the Beijing boutiques page.

Does a bag without accessories take longer to process?

No. Accessories bear on how high the offer is, not on how long the process runs. This one had none, and it still went from inspection to bidding within the same window, at the same pace as a bag with a full set.
