The figure on this page is what this particular transaction settled at. It reflects the house, the model, the condition, how complete the accessories were and the market at the time, and is not a quoted price for a comparable piece.

The client

By the time Ms Gao brought a Roulis 23 into the Shenzhen boutique, the bag had been carried for a good while, the corners were noticeably worn, and all she had left was the original box — the receipt and dust bag had gone missing. Her question was a very practical one: can a bag that only grades C still be sold normally, will the offer be pushed down to the point of being meaningless, and how are the missing items counted?

The model and the market

The easiest thing to spot on a Roulis is the interlocking double-ring clasp on the front, borrowed from Hermès’s chain motif; because it resembles a pig’s snout, the trade calls it the "pig nose". The house makes it in two sizes only, 18cm and 23cm. The 23 holds more and works on the shoulder or cross-body, which makes it the broader-audience size in the line. Black is among the easily traded colours and moves on relatively quickly. The double-ring clasp is both the identifying feature and a focus of the check — the stamps on the clasp and the curve of the rings are places an appraiser always looks.

A buy-back price is not arrived at by discounting what you paid. The house and the model frame the rough range, condition and accessories add and subtract within it, and the market at the time calibrates the result; within one reference, size, leather, colour and hardware pairing sort it further into tiers.

How this price was set

Ms Gao’s bag was quoted at CNY 15,000, with condition doing most of the pulling down — this one graded C, with visible wear at the corners, natural creasing across the leather, and light oxidation on the hardware. Two things held it up: black is an easily traded colour with plenty of takers, and the box was still there, so accessories count as box-without-papers and the deduction is smaller than it would be against a complete set. Condition is the heaviest variable on this model; each step opens a clear swing in the offer, and the corresponding tier can be checked item by item on the offer sheet.

The figure was not called by anyone. Once the inspection was recorded, the bag went up on the bidding platform, buyers around the country bid within the same window, and the client decided for herself against an offer sheet set out line by line. The Roulis runs through exactly this handbag buy-back route, and there is no official listed price to refer to. (Market figures reflect publicly available data.)

Questions about this case

What is an Hermès "pig nose" worth at buy-back?

Size, condition, colour and accessories all have to be checked, and the bands for the 18 and the 23 do not carry across. This Grade C Roulis 23 in Shenzhen, August 2026, sold for CNY 15,000.

What is the difference between a Roulis 23 and an 18?

Mainly size and capacity. The 18 is the mini, lighter and mostly worn cross-body; the 23 is a little larger, suits both the shoulder and cross-body, and takes more for a commute. They are different models and are valued separately — neither can be read off the other, and the two bands differ.

How many boutiques in Shenzhen buy Hermès bags?

Three. The addresses are collected on the Shenzhen boutiques page; book whichever is closest. The number is 400-831-5667. The check and the quote are finished in the same visit, with no need to come twice.

Can a bag in ordinary condition still be sold?

Yes. Condition bears on how high the offer is, not on whether we can take it. The corner wear on this Grade C bag was recorded item by item by the appraiser, and it still went onto the bidding platform, with the final price set by trade bidding.
